Plantation drive in Sec 44 marks Day of the Seafarer

In honour of the International Day of the Seafarer, the Three Bees Research Foundation (TBRF), an NGO, reaffirmed its commitment to maritime empowerment and environmental sustainability by organising a plantation drive and awareness campaign at Sector 44-C here today.

This year’s event was themed around the IMO’s 2025 campaign, “My harassment-free ship,” and the World Maritime Day theme, “Our ocean, our obligation, our opportunity.”

Addressing participants on the occasion, Capt KS Rai, co-founder, TBRF, said, “As the new era approaches, for many it may be just another day. But for us — the seafarers — it is a day to honour the silent brigade that powers global trade.”

He said, “Despite challenges such as geopolitical unrest, piracy zones, pandemics and war-risk areas, seafarers continue to steer the engine of global commerce with bravery and dedication. The TBRF used this occasion to pay heartfelt tribute to these unsung heroes of international trade.”

As part of its flagship Greener Earth Campaign, the TBRF planted 25 to 30 native tree saplings of trees that include Banyan, Peepal, Neem, Sheesham, Amla, Amaltas (Cassia Fistula), Chukrasia Tabularis (Indian mahogany), Papdi (Indian elm) and Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna). The event was attended by maritime stakeholders, local dignitaries and members of the Chandigarh seafarer community.
