Highlighting Punjab’s rich heritage, historical play “Sirhind Di Deewar” based on the supreme sacrifice of the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh has touched the lives of a few artistes so deeply that they come together year after year from different parts of the country to stage the play. The play will now be showcased on February 13 at the Harpal Tiwana Auditorium at 6.30 pm as part of the Patiala Heritage Festival.

Throwing further light on the production, Manpal Tiwana said it is always a dream come true to be part of the production.

Till this day, veteran actress Nirmal Rishi continues to act in the play. The cohesiveness improves with each performance and that is part of why it has travelled all over the globe. The team of actors remains the same and they are always up to the challenge of bringing something new to the performance.

“I played Wazir Khan, the Nawab of Sirhind, which my father portrayed since 1968, when the play was first performed at the Shanmukhnanda Hall in Mumbai. Many stalwarts Harpal Tiwana, Om Puri, Raj Babbar, Girja Shankar and Sardar Sohi to name a few have been a part of the performing team of this play during earlier times and therefore, it is always a big responsibility to stage the historic play,” added Manpal.

The iconic play “Sirhind Di Deewar” is a reminder of Punjab’s valiant history reminiscent of the sacrifice of the younger Sahibzada’s of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who despite their tender age, stood up for truth & justice. The play has been running for the past 59 years, and has been performed all over India & the world.
