Play staged to raise awareness about drugs in Fatehgarh Sahib
Under the War against Drugs campaign, the district administration organised a play at the Mata Gujri College to spread awareness particularly among the students and youths.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind and local MLA Lakhvir Singh Rai inaugurated the play that featured artistes of the Satkar Kala Manch.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Lakhbir Singh Rai said the campaign aimed to make sure that the youth are apprised about the ill effects of drugs to steer them away from the menace.
He said there was no place in Punjab for the drug traffickers and the police were taking strict action to identify and arrest them. Their houses built using the drug money were also being bulldozed, he added.
The DC, meanwhile, called upon the people, particularly the young residents, to come forward to become a part of the movement against drugs as without the cooperation of all sections of the society it is not possible to root out this menace.
“It is the need of the hour to save our young generation from drug addiction and if we do not take immediate steps, we have to face dire consequences in the future,” she said, further adding that under the War against Drugs campaign, the district administration will conduct awareness programs in the villages and towns of the district so that the land of martyrs, Fatehgarh Sahib, may be made drug-free in the near future.
