The police have filed a chargesheet against gym trainer Sawan Bhatti in a rape case. It is the second chargesheet filed against the alleged serial molester within the interval of 15 days in rape and molestation cases.
The latest chargesheet has been filed in a rape case registered on June 10 this year at the Sector 11 police station.
As per the complaint, the accused had stopped a girl in Sector 15, Chandigarh, on the pretext of asking for directions and then threatened her and made her sit on his scooter. He then took her to a secluded place and allegedly assaulted her sexually. He also snatched the victim’s belongings.
Initially, a case was registered against an unidentified person for the offences punishable under Sections 354, 376, 506, 354-A and 392 of the Indian Penal Code.
The police claimed that it came to know that accused Bhatti was involved in this case when he was arrested on July 1 for the rape and molestation case of a young woman in a Sector 16 park.
The woman had filed the complaint that on May 19, she was walking alone in the park when the accused grabbed her from behind and gagged her. The accused threatened to kill her and took her to a secluded place inside the park and fled after sexually assaulting her.
After the incident, the police formed teams to nab the accused. Cops were deployed outside parks in the city in the evening. After nearly two months, the police were able to arrest the accused on the basis of the CCTV footage of the scooter used by him.
The police claimed that the accused used to leave his mobile at home when he went out to commit a crime. The accused used to stick tape on the number plate of the scooter to hide its registration number.
The accused was so clever that he used to drive the scooter on cycle track to avoid coming in the coverage of CCTV cameras installed in the city.
