Police theory falls flat, court acquits UP man

A local court has acquitted Kadan Ahmed of Uttar Pradesh, who was arrested for promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious sentiments of a community.

The case was registered against Ahmed under Sections 153, 153-A and 295-A of the IPC on August 11, 2019, at the Industrial Area police station, Chandigarh, on the complaint of ASI Satish Kumar.

The ASI said on August 11, 2019, he along with Constable Hitesh Kumar and Woman Constable Aarti were patrolling near CITCO Yard at Dariya village.

He said at 7:15 pm, an informer told him that a video had gone viral in which Tarbez Ansari was allegedly killed in Bihar and Kadan could be allegedly heard talking about weapons to be used against a particular community .

During the course of investigation, cops nabbed Ahmed from near the railway station and the phone in which the video was recorded was also seized. Later, a chargesheet was presented in the court against Ahmed.

The Public Prosecutor said the accused had tried to hurt the religious sentiments of a particular religion by allegedly using derogatory, defamatory and scurrilous comments.

Yadvinder Singh Sandhu, counsel of Ahmed, accused argued that his client was falsely implicated in the case.

Sandhu said there was no proof on record which showed that the alleged video had gone viral on social media. After hearing arguments, the court acquitted Ahmed.
