Police turn School of Eminence into junkyard

Thanks to Mullanpur Garbidas police, the local School of Eminence and pride of the Punjab Government is fast turning into a junkyard.

Case properties, accidental vehicles, scrap and heaps of garbage are fast encroaching the playground meant for the ML Puri School of Eminence, Mullanpur Garibdas. Despite repeated requests by village sarpanch, numberdar, school principal and social activists to the police, officials refuse to vacate the panchayat ground.

For the past two years, several written communication to the police, DEO (Secondary), Kharar MLA, Municipal Corporation and CM’s office have gone unanswered. Hassled staff and students say their only crime is that the old building of the police station is adjacent to the school boundary wall, and that gives them the licence to litter the school complex.

“Most of the times, policemen and visitors park their vehicles in front of the main gate and boundary wall, obstructing the pathway to the school. It often creates a blind spot for students while coming out of the school which can be fatal,” reads a letter from the school management pleading the Mullanpur SHO to resolve this menacing situation. School principal Jyoti Bhatia said, “The village panchayat and the police should sort out the matter for the safety and wellbeing of children.”

Police officials said they would soon be shifting to a new building from here, but did not comment on whether the scrap would be removed or not.
