The Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, yesterday celebrated Pongal.

More than 130 persons attended the celebration. Dr Aravind Gandhi, Senior Resident, elaborated about the importance of the festival.

He said Pongal was a three-day festival. The first day was dedicated to Sun God for helping in harvesting various crops such as rice, sugarcane and turmeric; the second day was dedicated to livestock which helped in agriculture and also for the traditional sport, Jallikattu, and the third day was for visiting family members and friends and getting their blessings and exchanging wishes.
