With power cuts prolonging for hours, inverters and UPS are short-lived after which the post office staff express their handicap in dealing with them.

The staff keeps sitting idle when there is a power cut, visitors complained today after a two-hour outage in the afternoon crippled the official working.

“Due to power outage, although staff was present but work came to standstill as lone inverter also gave way after some time. The customers who came to the Post office, around 1 pm to 2.40 pm, were turned away to other branches or were told to wait for the power to come,” said Gurinder Singh Walia, a visitor.

Post office incharge Kamaldeep Kaur said power cuts earlier last for only a few minutes but the outage lasted for around an hour and a half today. As entire work is computerised, the staff was unable to provide service to the customers.
