The Pet Animal Medical Centre (PAMC) in Sector 3, Panchkula, has been struggling with erratic electricity supply for nearly a week, affecting several essential services including blood tests and X-rays. While the facility is not experiencing a complete blackout, its limited generator back-up operates only for a few hours a day — inadequate to support round-the-clock diagnostic operations.

Dr Ranjit Singh Jadon, in-charge of the PAMC, confirmed the ongoing issue. “The Electricity Department was informed, but some technical issue led to a week-long delay in repair. Department officials are working at the moment as we speak,” he said.

Today, the power supply to the centre was again disrupted, and workers from the Electricity Department were seen at the powerhouse on the PAMC premises attempting to restore it. One of the Electricity Department workers revealed, “We replaced a few important parts earlier as well, but it didn’t work. The whole electric unit serving the centre is old and hasn’t been maintained properly, which has led to persisting issues.”

Pet owners have expressed frustration over repeated disruptions, especially those needing timely diagnostics for their pets. “I had to postpone my dog’s X-ray twice. The PAMC staff is cooperative, but without power, what can they do?” said a local resident.

Another pet parent, Sonia, said, “I came from Zirakpur. It’s upsetting when you arrive only to learn tests can’t be done due to power problems. It’s our pets who suffer.” Pet owners already find it tough to bring their big, heavy and ferocious dogs along and the frustration doubles when their visit is wasted because diagnostics branches of the centre is non-functional.”

The recurring issue has raised serious questions about infrastructure maintenance and backup systems for essential veterinary services at the PAMC. Pet owners have urged the authorities concerned to expedite repairs and ensure uninterrupted power supply to the centre in the future.
