Farmers who had opted for the land pooling facility in Aerocity, Eco City-2, IT City and Sector 88 and 89 (under GMADA) have a reason to cheer as they won’t have to pay additional charges anymore for preferential locations.

A notification to this effect has been issued by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). Those who have already deposited money for preferential location of plots will get their refund in three months from GMADA.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said the decision would benefit a large number of farmers who had opted for the land pooling facility. He also disclosed that earlier, additional charges of 10 per cent for the corner plots and park-facing plots and 15 per cent in case of both facilities were being levied.

He said the allottee farmers have long been demanding the rollback of the additional surcharges and Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has bestowed a gift on the farming community. The decision would also benefit the farmers who opt for land pooling during the acquisition of new lands, he added.

Thanking the CM, the Housing and Urban Development Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria and GMADA Secretary Sarbjit Singh, Balbir Singh Sidhu said the decision had sparked a wave of elation among farmers of the area.
