Progressive farmers participate in ‘Farm to Pharmacy’ workshop

A workshop on Ayurvedic medicinal plants was organised at Jatinder Veer Sarvhitkari Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 71, in association with the National Medicinal Plants Board, Northern Region, Joginder Nagar, Himachal.

Organised on the theme “Farm to Pharmacy”, the event saw discussions on medicinal plants. Dr Pushkar Veer Singh, owner of Dharamveer Ayurveda Private Limited, Dera Bassi, shared insights with farmers about the medicinal plants used in the pharmacy industry. He emphasised the importance of cultivating Ashwagandha, Sarpgandha, Pitt Papra, Milk Thistle, Satyanashi, Black and White Kaunch, along with Harad, Amla, and Baheda, which can be highly beneficial for farmers.

The workshop saw participation from 14 progressive farmers from Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Ambala districts.

Vaid (doctor) HC Gautam provided a detailed explanation of the benefits of Ashwagandha to the participants.

Om Prakash Manouli, Environment Education Coordinator of Vidya Bharati, Northern Region, meanwhile, educated the farmers about the herbal plants available on the school campus. Additionally, discussions were held on herbal plant nurseries, medicinal plant seeds, herbariums, and the process of making natural Holi colors.

Bhag Singh Baidwan, Chairperson of the Green School Project, highlighted the significance of the herbal garden developed within the school premises, stating that it plays a crucial role in promoting a healthy lifestyle. He also shared plans to develop this herbal garden at a national level to provide extensive learning opportunities for students.

Farmers also exchanged knowledge about other medicinal plants available at their respective region.
