Protest over waterlogging in Amloh grain market
The protesters raise slogans against the government and demand immediate purchase and lifting of the crop
SAD (B) workers led by Amloh constituency halka in-charge Raju Khanna today held a protest at the Amloh grain market over not-lifting of the procured paddy and drenching of the crop stored in bags after morning rain which also led to waterlogging in the mandi. Talking to the media, Khanna said today’s light rain had not only caused a big loss to farmers’ paddy in the market, but also exposed the government’s arrangements for the crop procurement.
He said the sewer system of the grain market was choked. Piles of paddy had submerged in the rainwater, he said. As the procured paddy had got wet, rice millers might demand a cut in the crop price, he said.
He also raised the issue of moisture content in the paddy. The protesters raised slogans against the government and demanded immediate purchase and lifting of the crop. He said the government should immediately compensate affected farmers.
