In its report, the institute has observed that the damage to the walls of SCO 181-182 due to the collapse of the adjoining SCO 183-185 building is not severe and the structure can be rehabilitated.

No damage was observed in the beams, columns and slab of the building in span away from the collapsed building. External beams and outer columns were found damaged. It was observed that inside beams and columns were not affected.

However, the institute has recommended to erect temporary supports for building to ensure stability. For the stability, the building has to be supported by providing steel props of adequate capacity as specified by the structural engineer underneath the existing beams adjacent to collapsed portion.

“All the outer columns need to be supported by erecting brick columns having a similar load-bearing capacity as of the damaged columns. These brick columns have to be erected near the damaged columns. The ground floor slab must be supported using rigid props (shuttering),” recommended the NITTER.

The institute stated that debris be removed in a controlled manner to minimise vibrations.

It further stated that to make the building safe for use, a proper rehabilitation evaluation as suggested by structural engineer had to be carried out for the damage and execution to be done by a specialised agency.

Considering the impact of the collapse, the building adjacent to the collapsed building, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav ordered inspection of the building for its structural stability.
