Chandigarh, November 19
Punjab Students Union (Lalkaar) organised a ‘Fest of Mother Languages’ at the Student Centre, Panjab University, here today.
The Student Centre was decorated with handmade Punjabi poetry posters, photo gallery of Punjabi writers from Baba Farid till modern period, Punjabi calligraphy and Punjabi literature stalls. Classical Punjabi music and quizzes were also organised.
Amandeep, convenor of the PSU(Lalkaar), said hundreds of languages were spoken in our country, but they have not been given official status because it has been a policy of the Centre and state governments since 1947 to curb the development of various mother languages and impose Hindi-English as part of their agenda of ‘One Nation, One Language’.
The PSU (Lalkaar) held a three-week ‘Maa Boli Chetna Campaign’ and distributed thousands of pamphlets and posters across Punjab.
