New Delhi, January 11

Panjab University Chandigarh alumnus and former DG CISF Sheel Vardhan Singh has been appointed member of the Union Public Service Commission.

President Droupadi Murmu appointed Vardhan to the UPSC, with the Department of Personnel and Training notifying the appointment on Thursday.

Vardhan’s tenure will commence from the date he enters upon the office of member UPSC, the appointment notification said.

Singh, a 1986-batch IPS officer, has 37 years of distinguished service behind him.

He is a seasoned intelligence expert, and was Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force from November 2021 to December 2023. He also served as special director, Intelligence Bureau.

He has also served as First Secretary in the High Commission of India in Dhaka.

Singh was awarded the President Police Medal for Meritorious Service in the 2004 and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2010.

A Bachelor of Arts in English Honours, Sheel Vardhan Singh has authored two volumes of short stories.
