Panjab University authorities has approved validity of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score for PhD enrollment.
The modification has been approved by the university vice chancellor on behalf of syndicate. University fellow, Parveen Goyal had raised the issue regarding modification of the criteria to enroll PhD students in engineering departments of the university.
As per the new modification under Clause 5.1 (III) of Panjab University PhD guidelines, “The GATE/GPAT or any other national test qualified candidates meant for the admission to the PhD to be considered for the programme.”
“It’s a welcome step by university authorities. The candidates, who qualified GATE, will be eligible for the enrollment. Also, the caping on validity of marks in these tests has been removed,” said Goyal.
In addition, teachers (eligible) of affiliated colleges have been allowed to act as supervisors/co-supervisors of PhD research scholars with the permission of the vice chancellor.
It has been also resolved that the chairpersons of the departments should issue a notice to the research scholars for submission of the thesis, every three months — before the last date of stipulated period. “If no intimation is received from the department, the candidature will be considered automatically cancelled,” read the approval.
