PU athletes win 12 medals, relay team sets new record

Panjab University (PU) athletes bagged a rich haul of medals in the All-India Inter-University Athletics Championships at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The women’s team of Panjab University secured overall second position with 50 points, finishing behind Mangalore University, which attained top position with 73 points. KIIT Deemed University claimed third position with 35 points. In the overall combined category (men and women), Panjab University stood third with 84.5 points, while Mangalore University and the University of Madras claimed the first and second spots with 121 and 87 points, respectively.

The women’s 4x100m relay team made history by winning gold with a new meet record. The women’s 4x400m relay team continued their dominance by securing another gold medal. Amandeep Kaur added a gold medal to the tally in the 800 m race (women), and Sanjana excelled in the 5,000 m event to bag another gold. Sonia claimed bronze medal in the 200 m race, while Rashita finished fourth in the same event. Tamanna won a bronze medal in the 100m race (women).

In the men’s events, Sanyam clinched gold in shot put, while Saurabh secured a silver medal in the 3,000 m steeplechase, with Nishant finishing fourth. Sunny Dakha earned bronze in the discus throw and Govind won bronze in the 200 m race. Dupinder Singh added another bronze medal in hammer throw. The university athletes won 12 medals, comprising five gold, one silver and six bronze medals.

PU VC Renu Vig congratulated the team members, their coaches and Director Sports Rakesh Malik on this outstanding achievement. “We are immensely proud of this accomplishment,” she said.
