The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has sanctioned a three-year research project worth Rs 1 crore to Panjab University, aiming to unravel the complexities of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and develop innovative treatment strategies.

Led by Indu Sharma from the Department of Zoology as the Principal Investigator, with Indu Pal Kaur from the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) as Co-Principal Investigator, the study will explore the biological mechanisms of PCOS and assess nanoparticle-based therapeutic interventions using a PCOS rat model.

PCOS, a widespread hormonal disorder among women, is often linked to modern dietary and lifestyle patterns. Sharma emphasised the urgency of addressing this growing health challenge, stating, “Our research aims to deepen the understanding of PCOS and provide insights into its underlying causes, which could lead to more effective treatments.”
