Chandigarh, January 4

Panjab University women won the gold medal in the foil competition in the All India Inter-University Fencing Championship here today. The hosts’ team comprising Kajal, Kusum, Simran and Chhabi beat Divya Zala, Khushi Sameja, Kajal Chaudhary and Ritu Chaudhary of Gujarat’s Sardar Patel University in the title race.

RTM University, Nagpur, and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, won a bronze medal each.

While RTM University was represented by Harshada, Himani Ghodmare, Nilofar Pathan and Payal Moharle, the Amritsar varsity team comprised Payal, Jasmine Kaur, Rajni Sharma and Jaspreet Kaur.

In the women’s individual category, Riya from the Cluster University of Jammu and Simran of Punjabi University, Patiala, won bagged a bronze medal each in the foil competition.

The final match between Kajal and Kusum, both from the hosts Panjab University, will be held on Sunday.

In the epee event, Chhavi Kohli will take on Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer in the final.

Ena Arora of Punjabi University and Linthoi Haobam from Manipur University got the bronze medal each.

Jagmeet of Guru Nanak Dev University claimed the gold medal in the sabre contest. Shivani of Kurukshetra University claimed the silver, while Alka of Kannu University, Kannur, and Sanya of Panjab University won bronze medals.
