PU improves its global sustainability ranking
In the 2026 edition of the QS World University Sustainability Rankings, the university has secured the 569th position worldwide, marking a strong leap from its 710th rank in 2025
The Panjab University (PU) has registered a significant rise in this year’s global QS Sustainability Rankings.
In the 2026 edition of the QS World University Sustainability Rankings, the university has secured the 569th position worldwide, marking a strong leap from its 710th rank in 2025.
The leap also corresponds to the university’s improved ranking in Asia — rising from 189 to 144 — and in India — moving from 21st to 16th place. The improvement in the rankings reflects PUs better performance across the three core pillars of sustainability environmental impact, social impact and governance (ESG), said Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig.
“This year, PU has improved on all parameters at both national and international levels. Under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, PU achieved third place among State Public Universities (up from fifth in 2024). In the NIRF Pharmacy category, it advanced from seventh spot to third, and it re-entered the Engineering list at 93rd this year. Globally, PU moved from the 1001-1200 band to the 901-950 band in the QS World University Rankings 2026,” the VC added.
