The Punjab Students’ Union (Lalkaar) has announced Jobanpreet from the Department of Philosophy as its presidential candidate.
The union said it would raise issues faced by students, including fee hike, lack of hostel rights, delay in faculty recruitment, withdrawal of scholarships and growing restrictions on the freedom of expression on the campus.
“Student elections are increasingly dominated by money and influence rather than real issues. Our fight is to bring back student-centric and progressive politics to the campus,” stated the PSU (Lalkaar).
The group also alleged that fascist and communal forces are attempting to polarize the campus atmosphere and vowed to counter such trends through its campaign.
ABVP distributes bookmarks
In the run-up to the PUCSC elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today launched a ‘Book Keeper’, a bookmark for students. The initiative highlights ABVP’s focus on academic enrichment and student welfare.
The bookmark, designed with motivational quote and reminders, was distributed among students across the departments. Campus president Parvindra Singh Negi said the aim was to empower students with knowledge and culture of learning. The bookmark is symbolic of our larger mission to create a strong academic atmosphere in the university.
Indian National Students Organisation
Team INSO (Indian National Students Organisation) donated an Interactive Digital White Board to the University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT).
The initiative was spearheaded by PUCSC secretary Vineet Yadav and candidate for the post Vishesh Dhaka, who have been consistently working for the academic enrichment and technological progress of the university’s departments.
Shot in the arm for SOPU
The Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) received a major boost when senior student leader Deep Somal, along with his colleagues from the Gandhi Group Students Union (active in Panjab University since 2015), officially joined SOPU. “This step shows the growing realisation among students that only genuine student parties can save the dignity of the university and secure its future,” said Balraj Sidhu, president of SOPU.
