PU professor among top 2 per cent forensic scientists globally

A Panjab University professor, Dr Kewal Krishan of the anthropology department, secured 16th rank in forensic science research worldwide. He is part of the list of 13,761, top 2 per cent, forensic scientists of the world in the category of legal and forensic medicine.

This was revealed in a recently updated bibliometric analysis conducted by a team of scientists from Stanford University and the Elsevier BV-A leading scientific publisher. The scientists have been selected on the basis of numerous measures, including the number of papers published, citations received and Scopus h-index.

Dr Krishan is a well-known forensic scientist who has conducted varied research on several aspects of human morphology and their forensic applications. His research on fingerprints, footprints and identification from human remains has been widely accepted. He has research collaborations with many leading scientists of the world. He has published 332 papers having more than 66,000 citations. Many of his papers have been published in the top journals of the world such as Nature and The Lancet. He is also on the panel of editors of many international journals of repute.

He said, “Panjab University has the best laboratory and research facilities and infrastructure for conducting cutting-edge research. Young researchers and scientists are encouraged to use this facility and try to publish their research in top most journals of the world.”
