PU professor among top13 forensic scientists worldwide
Panjab University has earned global recognition as one of its faculty members, Dr Kewal Krishan, professor, Department of Anthropology and Dean, International Students, has been ranked 13th worldwide among 14,394 forensic scientists.
“This is not only a proud moment for the university but also for the entire nation, proving that its scientists can excel in research and academics on the global stage,” said Dr Krishan.
The ranking was revealed in a bibliometric analysis conducted by Stanford University scientists, based on science-wide author databases of standardised citation indicators up to 2024, available in the Elsevier Data Repository (V7, doi:10.17632/btchxktzyw.7). The forensic scientists were meticulously chosen based on multiple scientific parameters, including research papers published in reputed international journals, citations and the Scopus h-index.
Krishan is a renowned forensic anthropologist who has contributed immensely to the development of forensic science and anthropology in India. He has devised various novel methods for criminal and crime scene investigations, particularly related to human morphology, fingerprints, footmarks, facial biometrics, signature authentication and the use of artificial intelligence in forensics.
He is also among the most cited forensic scientists globally, with more than 100,000 citations of his research work. Additionally, he has contributed to major encyclopaedias of forensic science published by leading international publishers.
Krishan expressed his gratitude to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Renu Vig, for encouraging cutting-edge research and promoting international collaboration. “Collaborating in research not only enhances our capability to conduct innovative and ground-breaking work but also pushes the boundaries of our current knowledge and practice,” he said.
