Chandigarh, April 6

The Panjab University research scholars will now get more time to submit their PhD synopses as the competent authority has decided to treat the period between March 22, 2020 and March 31, 2021 as ‘zero’ year in view of the Covid pandemic.

This means a research scholar who had completed two years of registration as PhD candidate on March 22, 2020, would be treated at the same stage as on April 1, 2021.

“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was complete lack of access available to research scholars writing their synopses for PhD to libraries, labs, field work/pilot studies and hostels. In view of this, the competent authority has allowed this period to be treated as ‘zero’ only for the purpose of submission of PhD synopses,” stated a PU press release.

The competent authority has also decided to extend the deadline for the submission of dissertations by the MPhil students till December 31, 2021, the release added.
