PUTA president Amarjit Naura said the directive was not a new policy but a reminder of pre-existing guidelines.

“As educators, we must be mindful of our impact on society. This advisory simply reinforces our responsibility to set a positive example,” Naura said, emphasising that the directive encourages faculty to engage thoughtfully in public discussions without compromising the university’s reputation.

He further assured that if any misuse of the directive occurs, PUTA will address it, adding, “We support the directive’s intent to promote professionalism and academic integrity.”

The directive, according to Naura, was not aimed at stifling academic freedom but ensuring that faculty members’ public statements align with the values of the institution.
