A Panjab University (PU) panel today tendered a fresh roster for filling up 44 vacant posts in the university’s six constituent colleges at Sikhwala (Sri Muktsar Sahib), Balachaur (SBS Nagar), Nihalsingh Wala (Moga), Dharamkot (Moga), Mokham Khan Wala (Ferozepur) and Guru Harsahai (Ferozepur). The vacancy will be advertised soon after the Syndicate’s approval.

According to a source, all teaching posts in PU’s constituent colleges, except for principals in four of the six colleges were either vacant or had been filled on temporary basis. “These colleges run on grants given by the Punjab government. The rooster has been prepared keeping in mind the 100-point roster for reservation of the government of Punjab. So far, all teachers in the colleges, except for four principals, were appointed on temporary basis,” the source said.

In the six constituent colleges, 83 sanctioned posts have been vacant for several years. As per the new reservation roster, 21 seats will be reserved for scheduled castes (SC), 10 for backward classes, 11 for ex-soldiers and three for persons with disabilities. Also, one post will be reserved under the freedom fighter quota.

Now, the rate of reservation for scheduled castes will be 25 per cent and 5 per cent for backward classes under the direct recruitment process.

Non-teaching staff to be appointed

According to sources, Panjab University officials said non-teaching staff will also be appointed at the DC rate, the process for which has already started. “The process of hiring non-teaching staff has been started already, but it awaits VC’s nod,” a source informed.

The maximum deficit in the non-teaching posts is in the security department. The Board of Finance’s budget estimates of 2020-21 had locked a budget of Rs 6.86 crore for the recruitment of 228 sanctioned posts of security guards, one of Chief Security Officer, 12 gunmen, 5 security officers and 6 assistant security officers. Also, there is a provision of Rs 4.38 crore for security services on contract basis or outsourcing security for a contractual security officer in South Campus and 190 safety personnel for both campuses, including boys’ hostel no 7 and 8 and girls’ hostel no 9 and 10.
