PU to open for staff on rotational basis from today

The office of Director Higher Education has allowed Panjab University (PU) partially function from May 13.

PU Registrar Prof Karamjeet Singh informed that PU offices and offices of the Chairpersons of the teaching departments will start functioning from May 13.

It was further added that the office will remain open from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm (lunch break from 1pm to 1.30 pm) on the pattern of the UT Administration, till further orders. It was decided that while the Class A officers will report for duty on all working days, the remaining office staff (33%) will report on rotational basis.

The controlling officer/chairperson will ensure seating arrangement, social distancing and other precautions issued by the Government of India from time to time. The staff members residing in containment zones is exempted from the duty.

Wearing masks has been made mandatory and only PU staff members will be allowed entry as there will be no public dealing.

The circular further stated: “No public dealing shall be allowed and thermal scanning (one counter at Administration Block, one counter each in Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall, Vice-Chancellor’s office and USOL Building) near entrances will be done under supervision of security staff. Employees are advised that there should be no rush and social distancing be maintained while entering the office.”

Meeting held

A meeting under the Chairmanship of Professor RK Singla, Dean of University Instruction, was held today to discuss various issues concerning reopening of the university after lockdown period in the wake of spread of COVID-19. The others who attended the meeting included Prof VR Sinha, Dean Research, Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Dr Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations, Prof Sanjay Kaushik, Dean College Development Council, Vikram Nayyar,Finance & Development Officer, Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer Horticulture, Deepak Kaushik, President, Panjab University Staff Association and Panjab University Non-Teaching Employees Federation. The members paid condolence on the sudden demise of Professor Shankar Jha, Former DUI, a learned Sanskrit scholar.
