PU win gold medals in yoga, judo shooting at Khelo India University Games

The men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team bagged the top spot with 1,696 points.

The men’s yoga team and the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team of Panjab University bagged gold medals in their respective events in the Khelo India University Games being held in Rajasthan. The team scored 388.41 points to claim the top position, as Panjab University jumped to 5th position on the points tally, with a total of 18 medals (four gold, nine silver and five bronze medals).

The men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team bagged the top spot with 1,696 points. The team was represented by Devansh Vashishtya, Udhayveer Sidhu and Abhimanyu Yadav.

Panjab University’s Akshita Sharma, clinched a gold medal in judo (–57kg category). She defeated Sobhasinidevi of Manipur, Sonal of MSDU, Priya of RJU and Neelam of Punjabi University, Patiala, to win the gold medal.

In the women’s archery (recurve) final, Anshika defeated Panjab University’s Srishti Jaiswal 6-2, as the latter settle for the silver medal. The university bagged another silver medal in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol. Lovely Professional University’s Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu bagged gold with a final score of 29, overpowering Panjab University’s Devansh Vashishtya by just one point. The women’s trap team of the PU bagged the silver medal with 298 points and the in the 4x100 freestyle relay, Chandigarh University bagged the silver medal in 4:21.19s. Panjab University swimmers finished third in 4:28.26s.

The women’s fencing team of the university bagged a joint third position in the sabre event alongside the University of Jammu, while the epee team pocketed silver medal. In the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, Vashishtya bagged the silver medal with 29 points, while another local shooter, Udhayveer Sidhu bagged the bronze medal with 22 points. The mixed team of the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event bagged silver medal.

CU swimmers shine

Chandigarh University’s Harsh Saroha got the better of Olympian Srihari Nataraj in the men’s 50m butterfly event. He bagged the gold medal with a time of 24.90s. He also clinched the 200m butterfly gold with a time of 2:06.88 seconds and his teammate Ishan Rathi won the 200m backstroke race with a time of 2:13.51s. In the 100m butterfly event, Saroha clicked 56.12 s to win the gold medal. Hema from the same university bagged the gold in the women’s 200m butterfly event by clocking 2:35.30s. The women’s 4x100m freestyle medley team of Chandigarh University won silver medal in 4:46.63s, while the men’s team clocked 3:52.83s to win the gold medal. In the men’s badminton, Chitkara University defeated Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University 3-2, while Panjab University continue their winning streak by defeating Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University 3-1.

Later, in the league stage, Chitkara University defeated Panjab University 3-1. In the women’s event, Chitkara University defeated Shri JJT University Jhunjhunu 2-0, and later the side faced a 0-2 defeat against SRM University.
