PU zonal youth fest commences with music, writing competitions

Manmahi Singh of of DAV College, Sector 10, won the instrumental music (Indian) event on the opening day of the 66th Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival, organised at GGDSD College, Sector 32. Sonia of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, and Nitin Mishra of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, came in second and third, respectively.

The festival themed “Nurture the Nature for a Sustainable Future” will be held in two phases (October 25-26 and November 1-2), drawing the participation from around 3,000 students from 23 colleges affiliated with Panjab University.

On the first day, around 750 students showcased their talent through 33 items in different categories of music, heritage quizzes, creative writing, handwriting, fine arts and traditional heritage items, which were organized at multiple venues.

General Secretary of GGDSD College Society, Anirudh Joshi, extended a welcome to the chief guests and audience. He recounted the festival’s history, underscoring its significance in showcasing the talents of youth.

Panjab University Vice Chancellor Renu Vig highlighted the varsity’s glorious history and academic strength, noting the achievements of its alumni across various fields. She emphasised the significance of youth talent, fostering relationships and contributing to nation-building.

Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad appreciated the college and emphasised the importance of reskilling, re engineering and staying updated in multidisciplinary fields.

Komalpreet Kaur of Panjab University Campus won the handwriting competition (English), while Agampreet Kaur of MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, finished second. Ritiak Sabharwal of Guru Gobind Singh College For Women, Sector 26, claimed the third position. Taranveer Kaur of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, won first position in the handwriting competition (Sanskrit), followed by Khushdep Kaur of Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, at second position, and Mahak Parmar of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College at third spot.
