The Panjab University Campus Student Council elections pose a big challenge to the university authorities — defacement of walls and non-designated boards with posters of parties and their candidates. With not much time remaining in elections, which will be held in early September, the university authorities seem to have been focusing on the issue already before it becomes a big problem.
An internal committee, which was formed by the PU authorities to deal with defacement, met today and discussed the issue at length. “All members of the committee were present at the meeting. We shall be framing rules relating to the issue in our next meeting to be held soon,” said Chief Security Officer Vikram Singh.
The university has provided student leaders and parties with designated boards at different spots across the campus to put up their posters. However, one can see party posters being put up at few non-designated areas such as on roundabouts, poles and boards with signage directing towards different departments.
Around the elections, it is a common for party activists to report to the university authorities about other parties putting up posters illegally.
