Pulse polio: 61K kids immunised in Mohali

A total of 61,241 children were immunised on the first day of three-day sub-national immunisation day (SNID) Pulse Polio vaccination drive in Mohali district today. The target is to administer polio drops to 1,60,455 children in the age group of 0-5 years.

Civil Surgeon Adarshpal Kaur, Deputy Director Nisha Sahi and District Immunisation Officer Girish Dogra launched the campaign at Balongi this morning. They also visited other places, including Kharar, to inspect the drive.

Dr Adarshpal Kaur said around 38 per cent of the target was achieved today. A total of 1,254 teams, including doctors, health inspectors, workers, ASHA workers, students from nursing colleges and others, conducted the drive.

“A total of 2,508 health workers are visiting houses, railway stations, bus stands, brick-kilns and slums every day. The teams would visit a total of 4,11,710 houses and other places in the district. To ensure that all children are immunised, 120 supervisors will carry out random checks at various places.” said the Civil Surgeon.

Mohali is the only district in the state where all children below the age of five years are being covered whereas in the rest of the districts, children belonging to the migrant population only are being given the drops.

Assistant Civil Surgeon Renu Singh, Deputy Medical Commissioner Daljeet Singh Pardesi, District Health Officer Subash Kumar, Dr Akshay Kumar, Dr Harmandeep Kaur, all senior medical officers, were among the senior health officials who visited various places in all health blocks across the district to ensure a smooth conduct of the drive.
