Punjab CM’s Republic Day schedule changed due to busy engagements
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla announced that over 15,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure fool proof security arrangements for the Republic Day programme in the state. Extensive checkpoints have been planned between states, districts, and within districts for rigorous checking.
Shukla made this statement at Government College in Phase 6 here, a day after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s schedule changed from Faridkot to Mohali and finally to Patiala. The change occurred after pro-Khalistan flags and slogans were discovered on the walls of Faridkot’s Nehru Stadium.
However, Shukla attributed the change in the CM’s itinerary to administrative reasons. “The CM had prior commitments, which required him to return to Chandigarh the same day. Therefore, the decision was made on administrative grounds,” Shukla explained.
On Friday, the General Administration Department issued revised itineraries. Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal will now hoist the national flag at Phase 6 Government College on January 26, instead of Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.
