Mohali, December 18
In a bid to improve Mohali’s pathetic condition and to connect to the masses, the Punjab Democratic Party’s (PDP) founder, Guru Kripal Singh Mann, today invited like-minded parties to form a Punjab democratic alliance ahead of the Mohali Municipal Corporation elections.
Mann also announced five candidates for the elections, Amarjeet Singh Walia from ward number four, Harpal Singh from ward number 20, Balwinder Singh Balli from ward number 36, Gurbakhsh Singh from ward number 50 and Ravindra Kaur Gill from ward number 35.
Mann, addressing the media, said property tax was a burning issue in Mohali as the government was charging a rate of 7.5 per cent. He said the property tax should be taken on the lines of Chandigarh so that the businessmen of Mohali would get some relief in these pandemic times. All Mohali villages should be exempted from property tax. The MC has failed to use funds for repairing potholed roads and for setting up of a waste plant.
The PDP spokesman, Amarjit Singh Walia, along with his supporters, had announced his candidature for the MC elections.
Mann said the PDP’s aim was to bring forth clean, educated and innocent individuals. The party would contest the elections as a pilot project by contesting all seats, and that their main target is to contest the 2022 Assembly elections, he said.
