Punjab Engineering College students bag Rs 61L package

45% students in Software Development Engineering get placements

The Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Deemed to be University, has recorded a 45 per cent placement of students in the Software Development Engineering (SDE), with an overall 18 per cent year-over-year increase for the 2024-25 session. Three students from circuital branches have bagged the highest package of Rs 61.02 lakh per annum (LPA) from a multinational company.

In the recent Internship & Placement Cycle, the Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC) of the PEC recorded 17 per cent surge in placements in core engineering sectors and an even stronger 28 per cent spike in non-core related roles.

Circuital branches (CSE, EE, ECE) recorded a 12 per cent rise in number of offers. Non-circuital branches, including Mechanical Engineering, recorded a 70 per cent increase, followed by a 47 per cent improvement in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and 15 per cent growth in Civil Engineering.

“The SDE position has increased by 32 per cent on year-over-year basis, while product management roles are up by 31 per cent. Sectors such as education and management also witnessed a significant spike, with growth rates of 67 per cent and 78 per cent, respectively,” said Dr JD Sharma, Head of CDGC. He added, “The hiring trend revealed a strong demand in software and product roles. In terms of year-on-year trends, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) registered a 6 per cent increase in average cost to company (CTC) and a 45 per cent jump in the highest package. The hard work and perseverance of our students, combined with the guidance and support of the faculty and the PEC administration, have resulted in impressive numbers with many students securing lucrative job offers from renowned companies.”

Highest package

The highest package offered stood at Rs 61.02 Lakh Per Annum (LPA) by a multinational company to three students from circuital branches, while another company extended the second highest offer of Rs 52 LPA to six students for SDE roles.

The overall average package of 2024-25 reached to Rs 13.6 LPA, while the median CTC was Rs 12 LPA. In terms of CTC distribution, 14 students received offers in the Rs 30–40 LPA range. Forty students were placed with packages between Rs 20–30 LPA, 59 students in the Rs 15–20 LPA bracket and 187 students in the Rs 10–15 LPA range.

Meanwhile, among the branches, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) stood out with the highest average of Rs 16.7 LPA, followed by Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Rs 15.6 LPA, and Electrical Engineering (EE) at Rs 12.9 LPA. The highest package offered across all departments was Rs 61.0 LPA, received by students from both CSE and ECE.

SDE leads in stipends

The highest stipend of Rs 1.87 lakh per month for a Software Development role was secured by six students. Five students received stipend of Rs 1.5 lakh per month from prominent global firms, while another five students interning at top-tier multinational companies in the IT domain were offered Rs 1.25 lakh per month. Additionally, 19 students received stipend around Rs 1 lakh per month. About 20 students earned monthly stipend ranging between Rs 75,000 and Rs 80,000.
