Punjab FC signs Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Vidal

Punjab FC signed Argentina’s midfielder Norberto Ezequiel Vidal as the fifth foreign signing for the 2024-25 season. The Argentine player last featured for Indonesian top side Persita Tangerang.
The 29-year-old was born in Bahia Blanca in Argentina and had been playing as an attacking midfielder or a winger. He started his professional career in 2011 with Club Olimpo in his hometown. He spent eight years with the club and appeared 45 times for the club, scoring three times. In this duration he was loaned out to Atletico Independiente in Argentina, Delfin SC in Ecuador and Atletico Juventud in Uruguay.
In 2019, he signed for Argentine Primera B side San Martin SJ and in the following year represented Atletico Alvarado, scoring five times in 37 appearances. He has a short stint with Independiente Rivadavia before signing for Indonesian side Persita Tangerang in 2022. He played for two seasons in the club and scored 17 goals in 60 appearances.
Four in Indian U-20 team
Four trainees of Minerva Football Academy have been chosen to represent the Indian national team at the SAFF U-20 Championships. Midfielder Akash Tirkey, striker Gwgwmsar Goyary, and defenders Pramveer and Dhanajit Ashangbam will don the national jersey. Pramveer, the recent RFDL champion and Next Gen Cup bronze medallist, has his experience counted for the Indian U-17 Asian Cup squad and against Premier League youth sides. Tirkey, who made his I-League debut with Delhi FC this year, was a member of India’s U17 AFC Asian Cup Squad and was also part of the team that drew 3-3 with football giants Real Madrid. Goyary was the ‘Most Valuable Player’ in the SAFF U-19 Cup as he posted a thrilling last-minute winner against Pakistan. Ashangbam was the member of the U-17 AFC Asian Cup squad.
