Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria reviews ongoing projects, takes up Chandigarh's traffic issue with NHAI officials

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Monday held a review meeting with senior officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Railway officials, Airport Authority of India (AAI) and BSNL to review the progress report of various ongoing projects in Punjab.
Kataria directed the officials to complete all the central projects in a timely manner and inform in writing, in case there is any issue pertaining to its implementation so that it can be resolved on priority basis.
A meeting will be held every three months to get the progress report of all the central projects, said the Governor.
Kataria also discussed the issue of heavy traffic in Chandigarh. Responding on the issue, the NHAI officials said that the construction of national highways, connecting Panchkula to Shimla and Majri to Baddi, will minimise the traffic problem to a great extent.
Asserting that Udaipur-Chandigarh-Jammu are very important cities for tourism, the Governor said a proposal should be prepared to run Jammu-Tawi train on daily basis. He also reviewed the progress of the new Amrit stations and new railway lines.
During the meeting, the AAI officials shared information about the proposed road directly connecting Chandigarh to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport. They said the construction of this road will reduce the distance from Chandigarh to the airport by 10 km.
The BSNL officials also informed the Governor about various ongoing projects.
Additional Chief Secretary to Governor K Siva Prasad, Railways Ambala DRM MS Bhatia, Railways Ferozepur DRM Sanjay Sahu, BSNL Punjab CGM Ajay Kumar, NHAI Regional Officer Bipanesh Sharma and CHIAL CEO Ajay Verma, besides other senior officials were present on the occasion.
