Patiala, August 18
Punjabi University has deferred the last date for collection of fees from students of intermediate classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Members of various student organisations had staged a protest yesterday after which the university decided to cancel the notification sent earlier.
Students of the university have been raising concern over the decision of collection of fees from students of intermediate classes as classes through offline mode have not resumed. The university, in a fresh notification issued by the office of Dean, Academics, which is currently being looked after by Dean Research Dr GS Batra, said the university had decided to suspend the circular issued in relation to the collection of fees of students of intermediate classes.
The university, in its previous circular, had directed the students to submit fees for the current semester, which had begun on August 1, by August 21.
Lakhwinder Singh of the Punjab Students’ Union (PSU) said, “We had earlier issued a press note and decided to hold a protest on Monday. Students associated with student political parties, including the PSU (Lalkar), the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), also participated in the protest.”
