Puppeteers hold audience captive at Tagore
The third day of the International Puppet Festival, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Tagore Theatre Society, was dedicated to Russian puppetry.
Artistes Maria and Dmitry captivated the audience with their performance of “Theatre In The Pocket”. The 45-minute show featured nine different stories in a single performance. The husband-wife duo performed under the Magic Hat Group banner, showcasing five distinct forms of puppetry.
Through their act, they narrated tales of love, life, philosophy, and inspiration.
The crowd swelled as families and children turned out in large numbers, in part due to a public holiday in view of Mahashivratri. With the figure nearing the 1000-mark, many failed to get an entry.
Tagore Theatre Director Abhishek Sharma said, “While earlier it used to be a five-day festival, this year, it is a four-day event. Each day puppeteers from different country performed in Chandigarh like today was Russian artists on stage.”
“Because of Mahashivratri more people turned up for the event than usual. By 6.45 pm, we had to send bank people as it wasn’t possible to accommodate them. Which is why, we have kept tomorrow’s morning show (February 27) open for all. Earlier it was only for specific school students,” he further added.
