Banwari Lal Purohit regular Governor of Punjab, order silent on Chandigarh Administrator

Banwari Lal Purohit

Chandigarh, September 9

In a fresh order issued today, the President appointed Banwari Lal Purohit as the regular Governor of Punjab. However, the order did not mention about the regular charge of the UT Administrator.

As per the previous order, he was given the additional charge, both as the Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator.

A senior UT official said he was given the additional charge of both Punjab and the UT, but now he was given the regular charge of Punjab and it seemed the order would also apply to the UT Administrator. City residents have been demanding the appointment of a full-fledged Administrator for the UT by divesting the Punjab Governor of this charge. However, the MHA had recently clarified that the Centre had neither taken any decision on divesting the Punjab Governor of the responsibility of the UT Administrator nor any such proposal was under consideration. —TNS
