Three incidents of pickpocketing were reported at Elante Mall here on Christmas. A purse and two mobile phones were stolen following which the police have registered a case of theft and initiated investigations.
According to the police, one of the victims, Harinder Gulati of Ambala, who had come for shopping at Elante Mall, reported that while he was standing outside the lift, someone stole his purse containing Rs 60,000, credit and debit cards and a driving licence.
Similarly, the mobile phone of a PU’s MCom student was also stolen from the pocket of her coat. Complainant Pooja Garg, a Zirakpur resident, reported that she had come for shopping at the mall. While she was at the food court, some unknown person stole her mobile phone.
The mobile phone of another woman, Sonika Chhadha of Zirakpur, was also stolen.
The police said they were scrutinizing the footage of CCTV cameras to identify the suspects.
“Responding to one of the incidents, our security staff did the initial enquiry and took contact details of the patrons. Meanwhile, the family alerted the police authorities and proceeded to the police station to report the matter. We are extending our full cooperation to the local authorities in this matter,” said the spokesperson for Elante Mall.
