Purshotam clinches gold

Purshotam of Manglore University lifted a total of 245kg to win the gold medal in the 61kg category on the second day of the All-India Inter-University Weightlifting and Best Physique Championship at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, today.

Purshotam lifted 109kg in snatch, while he added another 136kg to his tally in the clean and jerk.

Govinda Sunil Mahajan of Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, won silver medal with a total of 238kg (105kg + 133 kg), while Yashmit Sharma of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, bagged the bronze medal. He lifted a total of 232kg (104kg + 128kg).

Santosh claims top spot

In the Best Physique Championship, Santosh Sambaghi Patil of Shivaji University, Kolhapur, clinched the title in the 65kg weight category. He was followed by Akbar Ali of Calicut University in second place, while hosts’ Lovely Sharma bagged the third position.

KMA Altab of Osmania University, Hyderabad, topped the podium in the 70kg contest. R Benjamin of Madras University and Chintoo Kumar, also from Osmania University, won the second and third positions, respectively.
