Senior IPS officer Pushpendra Kumar has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) for Chandigarh.
A notification from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs stated that Kumar, a 2006-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, will hold the additional charge until a permanent appointment to the post is made.
Kumar took over as Inspector General (IG) of Chandigarh Police on June 5 following his transfer from Delhi where he served as Joint Commissioner (Eastern Range). He has also held key roles in the Ministry of Defence.
The appointment comes after the transfer of former IG and acting DGP Raj Kumar Singh to Delhi.
Kumar’s recent leadership in the “Drug Free India” Walkathon on June 12 highlighted his active role in public engagement.
Kumar will now oversee both IG and DGP responsibilities, ensuring continuity in the city’s policing affairs.
