PUTA to VC: Will protest delay in CAS promotions

Irked over pending cases of promotions under career advancement scheme (CAS) and the delay in the meetings of selection committees of such cases, the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) today wrote to Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar in this regard.

In its letter, the teachers’ union said if cases for promotions under CAS were not taken up soon, it would stage an agitation.

Picking up the matter from its last plea to the authorities in a letter dated December 1, 2019, wherein PUTA had requested the VC to schedule a meeting of selection committees for pending CAS promotion cases, PUTA claimed that its representatives met the VC and voiced their concerns. “At that time, you had assured us that the selection committees would be fixed in December. More than two months have passed and there is no sign of these meetings,” said Rajesh Gill, the president of the association.

Gill furthered her argument and stated: “A number of teachers were issued letters of interviews for their CAS promotions in September, but these were cancelled at the last minute due to the Senate meeting. All these teachers have been patiently waiting for the interviews all these months. In addition to them, there are a large number of teachers whose pre-screening was completed long time ago and they have also been waiting for the interviews.”

Keeping in view that the PU authorities were preparing for the next visit of NAAC, PUTA stated that the university could not produce the desired output if the young faculty remains demotivated. “They need to be given their due in a dignified way. PUTA is being approached by these teachers every day and many of them feel as if they have to beg for something which should have come to them naturally,” wrote PUTA.

It added: “We look forward to a prompt response from your office, in absence of which PUTA shall be left with no other option but to protest.”
