Rafi Nite commemorates singer’s 100th birth anniv

The Yaadgar-e-Rafi Society, Chandigarh, in association with The Tribune Group of Publications organised Rafi Nite commemorating his 100th birth anniversary at the Tagore Theatre in Sector 18 today evening. The event witnessed a huge gathering of music enthusiasts from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

As many as 31 singers sung songs by Rafi and other female singers. Shahid Rafi, son of the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, was the star guest and Harbhajan Singh, Minister for Power Works and Power, Government of Punjab, was the chief guest on this occasion. Suvir Sidhu, a distinguished personality and member of the Bar Council of India, also attended the function.

Tagore Theatre stood witness to the enduring popularity of Rafi. Shahid sung many songs of the legendary singer and the audience enjoyed the night while humming the evergreen songs.

BD Sharma, general secretary, Yaadgar-e-Rafi Society paid tributes to Rafi and highlighted the event’s purpose to spot and acknowledge the best singing talent. Songs like ‘jaag dil-e-deewana rut jaagi’ by Sagar Soni, ‘dil ke jhorokhe mein tumko beetha kar’ by BD Sharma, ‘milti hai zindagi mein mohabat kabhi kabhi’ by Rita Sharma, ‘tum mujhe yun bhula na paoge’ by Pushpa Saxena, ‘roshan tumhi se duniya’ by Raman Kant, ‘O mere shah-e-khoobaan’ by Jaspreet, ‘jeewan mein piya tera saath rahe’ by Tarsem Raj and Suman and ‘agar teri jalwa numai na hoti’ by Rajive Verma and Kalpana were sung to mark the occasion.

Sharma presented the vote of thanks. Raman Kant and Dr Arun Kant, along with their team, managed musical instruments to make the programme an unforgettable event.
