Rain today provided relief to people from sultry weather conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department, 12.8 mm of rainfall was recorded till 8:30 am today following which it rained 6.2 mm in the city. So far, a total of 97.7 mm rainfall has been recorded in the city during this month. The normal rainfall in the month of September is 131 mm.

“Another depression is forming over Bay of Bengal from September 17-18. Thus, it is expected the monsoon will again become active,” said Surender Paul, director, local branch of the Meteorological Department.

In four months of monsoon so far, a total of 710.1 mm of rainfall has been witnessed. It is 13.9% less than normal rainfall of the season. However, weathermen feel the gap will get breached with more rain in store in this last month of monsoon.

There is a rain forecast for Monday, while the day later is expected to be cloudy. Today, the maximum temperature was recorded at 33.5°C, which is normal temperature of the day. The minimum temperature was 24.2°C, which also happens to be the normal temperature of the night. No major change either in day or night’s temperature is expected over the next few days in the city.
