Rain washes away Fatehgarh Sahib road repairs weeks after completion
The first rainfall since the completion of patch work on roads leading up to city gurdwara, DC Office, Civil hospital and other major thoroughfares has laid bare the poor quality of repairs. Potholes have reappeared on most stretches, much to the chagrin of commuters.
The development comes in the backdrop of representatives from various NGOs and social acitivists having raised concerns about the alleged use of substandard material for patch work.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind too expressed concern over the poor patch work carried out before the Shaheedi Sabha at a cost of approximately Rs 1 crore.
Notably, the chief secretary during a recent visit to Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib had also been apprised about the issue.
He had at the time assured that would look into it.
Senior AAP leader Deepak Batish too had complained to the Chief Minister’s Office and Vigilance about the quality of the patch work.
Meanwhile, Gurwinder Singh Sohi, president of JAGO, an NGO, alleged that the funds worth crores allotted by the government in advance for the repair of roads have gone down to the drain due to poor planning.
“The patch work was done in the nick of time late in the winter. It hardly lasted a few weeks,” he said, pushing for an enquiry.
