Chandigarh, February 21

Chandigarh batters successfully managed to save wickets to pull off a draw on the last day of the Ranji Trophy match against hosts Karnataka, at the KSCA Stadium. However, the hosts bagged maximum points from the draw on the basis of the first innings lead.

In reply to Chandigarh’s 267, Karnataka amassed 563/5 in the first innings. In the second innings, Chandigarh lads were playing at 236/5, when the match ended. Resuming from 61/0, Chandigarh lost an early wicket as Bhambri (33 off 27 balls) was back to pavilion without adding any run to the overnight total. Skipper Manan Vohra (23) and Khan raised a 61-run stand off 100 balls, before he became Kumar’s second victim. Khan (63 off 90 balls, with 11 boundaries) soon left the crease as he failed to play a stunner by Koushik. Kunal Mahajan (1) turned out to be next victim of Koushik. Thereafter, Ankit Kaushik (15) played a 48-run cameo with Mayank Sidhu to help the team achieve 175. Kaushik was caught by Sharath off Venkatesh. Sidhu (56 off 150 balls, with three boundaries) and Karan Kaila (25 off 93) played a stable unbeaten innings to help Chandigarh avoid a defeat in last game of the Ranji Trophy.

After the seven outings of the Ranji Trophy, the UT team failed to log a single win in the entire tournament. In the Elite (C) group, the side finished at seventh spot among eight teams with six points.
