Tripura’s middle-order played remarkable innings to fight against host Chandigarh, despite losing four wickets under 100 runs during the day 3 of a Ranji Trophy match at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.

Chasing 356, the visitors posted 438 to display a stunning comeback against the hosts. In their second innings, Chandigarh openers posted 116 to claim a 34-run lead at the drawn of the stumps. Shivam Bhambri scored unbeaten 61 off 79 balls (with six boundaries), while Arslan Khan posted unbeaten 49 off 84 balls, with five boundaries.

Earlier, resuming from 187/4, Tripura went on to score 438. After holding the charge from 80/4, overnight unbeaten Ganesh Satish and BB Debnath continue to play sensibly. The duo started the day pretty well and extended their partnership to give solid start. They raised a 138-run stand for the fifth wicket partnership, before Chandigarh bowlers got their first breakthrough.

Gurinder Singh halted the pair from scoring further by claiming Satish for 88 off 169 balls, with 11 boundaries. His partner, Debnath followed him to the hut soon after scoring 64 off 155 balls, studded with eight boundaries, at the team’s total of 253/6.

Thereafter, seasoned international wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha along with MB Mura Singh gave a brilliant stability to Tripura innings by raising a 117-run stand. The duo faced 138 balls to help Tripura take over Chandigarh’s total.

Saha was playing at 66 off 96 balls, with nine boundaries, when he was caught by Mayank Sidhu off Hartejassvi. The partnership help the visitors achieve 370/7.

Thereafter, Gurinder swung into action and accounted Sankar Paul (22 off 16 balls, with four boundaries) and Mura, who missed scoring century by four runs, for 94 off 105 balls, with 11 boundaries and two sixes.

The duo was involved in a 41-run stand for the eighth wicket. Parvez Sultan (6) was the last man of Tripura innings at 438. Gurinder returned with 4/117, while Rohit Dhanda and Karan Kaila took two wickets each for the bowling side. Hartejassvi and Arpit accounted one each.

Punjab need 371 runs to win with six wickets in hand

At IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, Punjab will eye to chase a 371-run target against Gujarat to claim maximum points at the home turf. In reply to Gujarat’s first innings 339, the hosts posted 219. And, in the second innings Gujarat declared their innings at 290/6 after taking a 410-run lead.

In reply, Punjab lads were struggling at 40/4 at the drawn of the stumps today. Priyajitsing Jadeja, who took five wickets in first innings, remained a mystery for Punjab batters as Vishwa Partap Singh (8), Anmolpreet Singh (7) and Prabhsimran Singh (8) surrendered to the right-arm spinner.
