Chandigarh, July 13
The Chandigarh branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) organised Lord Jagannath’s 38th Rath Yatra in the city with great enthusiasm and devotion.
The Rath Yatra started at 3 pm from ISKCON in Sector 36-B, when Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit flagged it off after worshipping Lord Jagannath. Purohit swept the path before the ‘rath’ with golden brooms and then pulled the chariot carrying the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva and Devi Subhadra.
The Governor appreciated ISKCON for its efforts to spread the message of Bhagavad Gita all over the world, which had changed the lives of lakhs of people.
Hundreds of ISKCON devotees came for the ‘rath yatra’. Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladev and Devi Subhadra were offered 1,008 offerings on the occasion. After the offerings, an ‘aarti’ was held by some prominent citizens and dignitaries of the city.
With one group of devotees were busy pulling the chariot, another group was doing ‘sankirtan’ and also dancing before the chariot. Many volunteers of ISKCON were distributing small packets of ‘prasadam’ among participants and onlookers.
