Mohali, February 23
After arresting two members of Ravi Balachauria’s gang, the Mohali police are probing the suspects’ possible involvement in the robbery at Indian Jewellers at Phase 10 in Mohali on December 30 last year. The police suspect the same gang might have been involved in the robbery.
According to Harmandeep Hans, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Mohali, the robbery of jewellery items worth around Rs 35 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh cash from a local jewellery shop at gunpoint could be the handiwork of the gang members. “We are yet to interrogate the suspects, identified as Arun Kumar alias Mani and Sandeep Kumar alias Sandy, in this regard”, said SP Hans.
He added the gang members had targeted a jewellery shop at Phagwara some time back in a similar way under which the shop at Phase 10 was looted by four car-borne miscreants on December 30.
Of the four miscreants, three had covered their faces with monkey caps whereas the fourth one had used a muffler to hide his identity. The incident had occurred at around 11 am and the miscreants had taken just around 15 minutes to loot the shop after tying up the shop owner Rajesh Kumar and his son Abhey Chauhan, here. They had also taken away the mobile phones of the victims and the digital video recorder (DVR) with them so that the police could not get the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the shop.
SP Hans said we have observed the same modus operendi of the robbers in both robberies at Phagwara and Mohali. We are suspecting that the gang was involved in the incident at Mohali, he added. “We have taken police remand of both the accused for one day. Moreover, we would also bring the kingpin Ravi Balachauria, who has been arrested by the Gujarat police on Friday, on production warrants here soon. We would interrogate the miscreants to check their involvement in the robbery case, here, soon”, said SP Hans.
